Große Museen, mutige Kirchen und rationale Siedlungen prägen die Architektur in Köln. Doch gibt es auch eine Vielzahl von Nebenschauplätzen auf dem Dach, unter der Brücke, im Hof oder in der Lücke, wo baukulturell Bedeutsames geschaffen wurde. 110 Projekte zeigen neben dem Besonderen auch das Alltägliche, nicht nur das Neue, auch das Weitergedachte. Der Fokus liegt auf der zeitgenössischen Architektur, doch ordnen die Autorinnen auch die Werke der Kölner Nachkriegsbaumeister und Nonkonformisten in das Gesamtbild ein. Jedes Projekt wird auf einer Doppelseite mit Text, Schwarzweißfoto und stilisiertem Plan vorgestellt.
